The yak lives at high altitude in temperatures reaching below 30 degrees Celsius in winter. It is protected by a highly dense layer of soft brown wool which the nomads call ‘khu’

The best khu is that of the two year old yaks, or ‘yare’. The yare sheds its wool in the spring, as do the older animals. It has to be collected by hand, as it becomes loose.

At Norlha, we have established our own wool collecting network, which we built up over the last few years. This ensures our availability to the highest quality raw materials while providing the nomads with regular income and the best prices for their products.
